Universal add-on to kefir or yogurt

I stumbled onto a mix that adds whole new dimension to any fermented milk product I’ve tried. Be it kefir, yogurt, kefir cheese or separated buttermilk fat, it works for any of them. It’s so simple, I am almost embarrassed to call it a recipe. Then again, it’s healthy, tasty and opens door to infinite number of variations. Try it and see if you like it as much as I do.

Take a cup of kefir (or yogurt, or… you got the idea). Add a heaped tablespoon of roasted salted pumpkin seeds. Add two tablespoons of shredded coconut. That’s your basic add-on, and it’s almost addictive as it is. Try it this way first; to me, its mix of sour (kefir), somewhat spicy (salted pumpkin seeds), and slightly sweet (coconut) taste and crunchy/chewy texture make it irresistible. You may want to experiment with proportions, making the mix more dense or liquid. It, however, becomes even better when you start adjusting it to your taste, to this minute desires, or to occasion. It lends itself to savory or sweet additions. Try raisins, lemon zest, lemon juice, orange zest, grated ginger. Try chopped fruit. Try dark chocolate shavings or chips. On the image below you see my latest creation: ground coffee and cinnamon. Quantities for any of those add-ons? Experiment, your guess is as good as mine – just throw some in and see if that works. Enjoy!
